Welcome

Lewis Ecology is an independent wildlife consultancy. Established in 2000, we pride ourselves on an efficient and cost effective service that is tailored to meet the needs of our clients. We are specialists in vertebrate ecology with a major interest British mammals, reptiles and amphibians.

Based on the north Kent coast, Lewis Ecology undertakes projects throughout Kent and further afield including Essex, Sussex, Surrey and occasionally countrywide. We provide advice, management and training to a number of organisations and individuals alike.

Our services include:

Surveys

From desk based searches to field assessments, Lewis Ecology can provide a complete range of surveillance techniques in order to establish presence or likely absence, population assessments, biogeographic censuses as well as species and habitat diversity indices.

Reporting

Reports are produced using up-to-date data analysis packages as well as unique wildlife images and mapping software to offer our clients the quality and assurance expected from a professional consultancy.

Licensing

Lewis Ecology can provide experienced and licensed individuals to conduct European protected species surveys including Great crested newts and Dormice. We can also prepare and submit DEFRA licence applications in the event of possible disturbance to important breeding sites and other wildlife sensitive areas. All licensed activities are carried out in accordance with published guidelines, planning regulations and wildlife legislation.

Mitigation

Where disturbance to wildlife and/or habitats is unavoidable, Lewis Ecology can provide recommendations and implement mitigation strategies based on species specific requirements.

Education

As well as providing a quality consultancy service Lewis Ecology has strong links with a number of governmental and non-governmental organisations, schools, colleges and universities. Lewis Ecology provides lectures, workshops and group activities based around extensive species knowledge and field-craft. We can provide state of the art presentations and host events to help promote wildlife awareness and conservation.
